Our work in ICT starts in the Summer term with a unit based around ‘3D Modelling’.  We learn what 3D modelling is and how to create simple models, including re-sizing, rotating, grouping and positioning, using the Tinkercad website.  We then learn how to make ‘holes’ in 3D shapes, creating a real-life model of a pencil pot before designing and then modelling a photo-frame.  The website is free and the children can use any of the tutorials at home to extend their learning: they are all given a class code and nickname to login.

Our second unit of work focuses on programming and sensing.  We introduce the children to a micro:bit and teach them how to program it to produce specified outcomes.  The learning culminates in them creating a step counter and testing it.  The children LOVE this unit and again the software is free on the website, where they can use an ‘emulator’ to practise their programming skills, even without the micro:bit itself.
