In Maths this term will be covering a variety of units:
Numbers to 1,000,000
- Reading and writing numbers to 1,000,000
- Comparing numbers to 1,000,000
- Making number patterns
- Rounding numbers to nearest 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000
Addition and Subtraction
- Adding within 1,000,000
- Subtracting within 1,000,000
Multiplication and Division
- Finding multiples, factors and common factors
- Finding prime numbers
- Finding square and cube numbers
- Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1,000
- Multiplying 2 and 3 digits by 1 digit
- Multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits
- Multiplying 3 digits by 2 digits
- Dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000
- Dividing by 3 digits and 4 digits
- Dividing with a remainder
Graphs/Statistics
- Reading tables
- Reading line graphs
All lessons follow the Maths No Problem Structure, extended by the use of challenge questions.
Alongside daily Maths lessons, we also incorporate separate arithmetic sessions, which focus on core arithmetic skills. These are based on the learning they have covered in previous years, and as we get further into the year, skills that have been covered in Year 5.
Children complete 12 arithmetic questions in ten minutes, 3 times a week to consolidate their skills and get them used to completing arithmetic questions within a set period of time.
