Governance

The school is part of the Diocese of Coventry Multi Academy Trust and the Academy Governance Committee (AGC) is part of the governance structure of the Trust which is responsible for overseeing strategic decisions of the school. The governance structure for the trust as a whole is outlined in the governance structure documents here.

As an Academy Governance Committee we work in close partnership with the Headteacher and senior leadership team to ensure the best quality education is provided to every child. It is our responsibility to support, challenge, ask questions and ultimately represent the school community. The Academy Governance Committee acts as a ‘critical friend’ to the senior leadership team, questioning and challenging decisions in a constructive and professional way.

Academy Governance Committees have key roles in relation to: providing support, monitoring and challenge around educational experience and performance; church, community and stakeholder engagement and supporting alignment with Trust strategy, approach, ethos and values. The AGC Members meet regularly, visit the school when possible and during special events.  As a team, we are able to support the school to function well and strive to provide a high standard of education.

As a Church of England Academy (part of the Diocese of Coventry Multi-Academy Trust) all the AGC Members support the school in being a place of inclusive welcome and education for everyone.

Meet the AGC Members

Sue Patterson - AGC Chair, Community AGC Member

I was delighted to be invited to join the Academy Governance Committee of Leigh C of E Academy two years ago and it is a privilege to now serve the academy as the Chair of this group of volunteers.  It has been a joy to learn more about our vibrant, caring school not only through meetings and governor visits but also to be able to come into school as a volunteer, hearing children read as well as taking part in some theme days and staff training.

My own children now have families of their own and I have experienced schools as a parent, grandparent and as a teacher. As a retired primary school head teacher, education has been my passion for over 40 years, and it is that experience that I bring to my role as a governor at Leigh.

I welcome the opportunity to be a member of a whole school team in a Church of England Academy where children are encouraged to value themselves as special individuals. An academy whose purpose and ambition is shared by governors to inspire children to recognise, value and develop their unique combinations of talents and skills, within a safe, secure learning environment and to become the ‘best that they can be’ now and as they move on to new opportunities.

Mrs Lynn Lee – Head Teacher

I joined Leigh in September 2015 as an Assistant Head and the Year 2 teacher.  I have been with the school as they moved to an Academy, joining the Coventry Multi Academy Trust (MAT).  I became the Head Teacher of Leigh in May 2020.

I will strive to improve our academy and work together with the children, the staff, the Governors, the parents and the MAT to ensure that this happens. To ensure as a family we always 'Aim ever higher'

Sarah Tyrell – Associate AGC Member

I joined the Leigh team in September 2021 as Deputy Head and I am really enjoying getting to know the children, families, staff and the wider team.

I have been a teacher for 16 years working in Northampton, Australia and Warwick.  Whilst I have spent most of my career at one primary school in Warwick, I have held a number of different positions over that time giving me a broad perspective on teaching and learning in a primary school.  My experience includes teaching across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, maths lead, reading lead, Deputy head and SENDCo.

As part of my role at Leigh, I lead the Inclusion Team responsible for supporting learning and attainment for all our vulnerable pupils.

Thank you to everyone at Leigh for making me feel so welcome – I love the caring, nurturing approach that is central to everything we do for children and families at Leigh.

Sue Clayden  – Foundation Exofficio Clergy

I joined as a Governor in 2022.

I work at St James church as the Children, Youth and Families Ministry Enabler. Prior to that I was a teacher and have many years experience in Early Years and Alternate Provision.

Each time I come through the school doors or meet Leigh pupils at church, I am so impressed by the way children are nurtured and encouraged to aspire and it's an honour to be able to be a part of that.

Lisa Sullivan – Staff AGC Member

I have worked in Reception and EYFS for 4 years and before that I worked in year one and I have been a member of the Governors since 2017. I have four children, three who have now left Leigh C of E Academy and one who is currently in year 5. My eldest started Leigh in 2009 so I have been a part of the school for a while now.

I am passionate about children’s education and I love to see the children learning and how much they grow and develop during their time at school.

I am proud to be part of the Leigh C of E academy staff and a AGC member and hope to continue to drive the school forward, to ‘aim ever higher’.

Olga Rebrova – Parent AGC Member

Donna Weatherall – Community AGC Member

I became a community governor in 2021, but originally started as a parent governor when my eldest son started in reception at Leigh in 2016, and now both my sons attend the school.

I wanted to be a governor to support the school in continuing to be the warm and nurturing environment that I felt it to be right from my very first visit to the school.

I am a qualified accountant, currently working in the legal sector, and I bring my finance and business skills to our governing committee.

I want all the pupils at Leigh to be encouraged to try and achieve their potential through education, but also to become responsible and caring individuals.

Leigh is a wonderful school, that I am proud to send my children to, and to support as a governor. The staff really know and care for the children and encourage the children to thrive.
