Three tasks to send in today: English, Maths and Science.  Remember to send in all parts of the task and read the tasks and questions carefully.

You Tube video links sent by email:

Maths: (1) 'In Focus & Let's Learn' (2) Guided Practice & Independent Practice

Science:  Stage 1; Stage 2; Write Up.

IF YOU ARE DOING THE SCIENCE INVESTIGATION YOURSELF, then set it going this morning (see video 1), so that you have your results at the beginning of the afternoon.

9:00 – 10:00 English (SEND IN)

LO: To plan a narrative scene: final part of final scene.

This is lesson 7 of 8 in our final writing unit of the ‘Golden Compass’.  If you haven’t completed the other lessons, go back to Friday’s lesson in Week 4 and complete the sequence of lessons from that point before attempting this lesson.  In this lesson, you will edit a short paragraph to correct mistakes before analysing and planning the final narrative scene in detail.

Task:

  1. Follow the lesson through, using the worksheet below to complete the mini-tasks throughout the lesson.

Mrs. Holdaway’s Group

As above, but use the worksheet below.

10:00 – 10:45 Arithmetic

Task:

  1. Complete Paper 6
  2. Self-mark your work: can you find one great mistake that you made?
  3. Choose one of the questions you made a mistake with and find a video online (Corbett Maths is great!) to help you practise the skill.

Mrs. Holdaway’s Group

As above, but using the Test 6 below.

11:00 – 12:00 Maths (SEND IN) You Tube ‘Help Video’ sent by email

Maths No Problem

LO:  To express a missing number algebraically.

Make sure you have the You Tube video that goes over the ‘In Focus’, but also the ‘Guided Practice’ and the worksheet if needed.

Task:

  1. Go through the ‘In Focus’ task with me on the video. What is happening in the number crunching machine?
  2. Complete the ‘Guided Practice’ on the worksheet, with me on the video.  Remember that you can type into the text boxes that I’ve put in for you.
  3. Worksheet.  Complete all questions – there’s only 3!

Extension: Complete the challenge question.

Mrs. Holdaway’s Group

LO: To develop strategies to plan and solve problems (Part 4)

In this lesson you will exploring a series of shapes which grow in size by spotting patterns to find the rule of the pattern.  Using this rule, you will then find out the number of shapes needed for any term in the sequence

  1. Have a go at the maths anagrams.
  2. Complete the ‘To Start’ activity.
  3. Work through the main learning about sequences – tables and chairs (this was one of the sequences we have looked at in our Maths No Problem work also!).  Use slide 3 worksheet to help you work through.
  4. Complete the main task on ‘Slide 4’ by completing the table.  Try the challenge on ‘Slide 5’.

1:00 – 2:30 SCIENCE  You Tube Videos sent by email

In this lesson, you will complete the science investigation that you started to write up last week.  Make sure you have all the equipment that you need, but if not – DON’T WORRY – follow along with my investigation that I completed, in the classroom.

Tasks:

  • Watch the first video, which goes through how to set up the investigation – showing how I did it.
  • Wait for a few hours, so that the yeast has time to ‘feed’.
  • Watch the second video that shows my results – were yours the same?
  • Write up the end of your investigation using the worksheet below.  The third video explains how I wrote my results up as an example.

2:30 – 3:00 SPELLING

LO:  To practise and apply knowledge of /ee/ sound spelt ‘ie’ or ‘ei’, including test.

In this lesson, you will recap the rules associated with the /ee/ sound spelt 'ie' or 'ei', look at words that are exceptions to the rules and learn a spelling practice strategy. The 10 spelling words set in the previous lesson will be revisited and tested.
