World Book Day 2022

World Book Day – Thursday 3rd March

Dressing Up

This year, as part of World Book Day celebrations, children from Year 1 – 6 are invited to come to school dressed as an adjective.  An adjective is a describing word to tell you more about something.  Blossoming, contagious, archaic, sturdy, useless, energetic, essential, artistic, puzzled, sparkly and sleepy are all examples of adjectives – as shown in the costume examples below.

There will be prizes for the most original costumes and their photos will be posted on Facebook and here.  We look forward to seeing what fantastic ideas you come up with!

Nursery and Reception, however, as their focus is bedtime stories, will come to school dressed in their pyjamas.

Book Swap

Within each class we will be holding a ‘Book Swap’.  Children can bring in books up to and including Thursday 3rd March that they have finished reading and ‘swap’ it for someone else’s book.

Classroom Activities

In school, children will be doing a variety of activities throughout the day all based on different aspects of books.  Work in Early Years will be based around bedtime stories and KS1 will be focused on vocabulary.  KS2 will be working on creating imaginary settings after taking part in a live online workshop from some of the authors that have written the World Book Day books this year.

World Book Day Token

World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children.  To help get them started on their reading journey, your child will have a £1 World Book Day Book Token sent home with them that can either be exchanged for one of the 12 special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2,99 or more.  You can find out more about the books at https://www.worldbookday.com/books/ and access a digital Book Token at Digital Book Token (worldbookday.com).

Please help your child to use it on or around World Book Day by visiting your local bookshop.

We hope to have a thoroughly enjoyable day, involving lots of fun activities for the children to help us celebrate the 25th anniversary of this magical day.
