Monday

Hello Year 5 and welcome to another week of home learning!

Please send in your English, Reading and RE work today.

MATHS

LO: add unlike fractions, which create improper fractions and mixed numbers

Today’s Maths is a consolidation of the previous lessons on addition fractions with different denominators.  To help you with today’s work, remember the skills you learnt last week about adding fractions with different denominators (ie making them both have the same denominator).  You don’t need to complete the In Focus task today but look through it to make sure you understand what you will be doing in the lesson.   As previous lessons, take your time in going through the Let’s Learn so you have a solid understanding.  Remember, when you are finding equivalent fractions you need to find a common multiple to make both denominators the same.  As usual, I’ve left the answers for you in Guided Practice.  Make sure that you are working through the questions and understanding how to work them out – don’t just look at the answers.  This won’t help you when you come to completing the two worksheets.   Your answers need to be in the simplest form (a lesson from last week).  Don’t forget to have a go at the challenge.

READING

Trouble in Withy Wood – Chapter One

We are starting a new book on Fiction Express today.  When you login to Fiction Express you will need to choose Level 2 and find the book Trouble in Withy Wood.  Read the first chapter and answer the quiz.  Don't rush through the reading, some of you seem to be out of this world readers and have read the chapter in under 5 minutes!  Remember that I track your reading and quiz scores to ensure that you are keeping up to date and also that you understand what you have read.  Your activity today is to draw a picture of what you think the wood sprites look like. Then, write a caption explaining who your picture is of and what they are like.  Please send me your completed drawing.

ENGLISH

LO: to plan a persuasive letter

In this lesson, you will learning how to structure persuasive points/sentences and then start to plan your persuasive letter.  Make notes as you go along as your persuasive letter is your independent write on Friday which I will be asking for you to email in.  Please email me your notes and persuasive sentences from today's lesson.

RE

Lo: to write a five-finger prayer

Today’s RE lesson is looking at modern prayer and how and why we pray.  Click on the link to read further explanations of how to pray and who we pray for.

After you have read this, click on the link to see how we can use our hands to create our own modern prayer.   Your activity today is to use the print out of the hand (or draw your own) to create an imaginative prayer hand.  There is a link for you to click on to see an example of what your prayer hand could look like.

SCIENCE

LO: to understand non-contact forces

Today you will be following lesson 4 in our Forces unit where you will learn about different non-contact forces such as gravitational and magnetic forces.  As you follow the online lesson you will need to make notes to carry out today’s task.  Read through each of the slides and then complete the online quiz.  Use the notes you have made to write about Galileo and explain what he discovered about non-contact forces.
