Story time – check on Marvellous Me for chapter 14

Work to return today: Maths, English theme

Maths

Miss Thomas’s group – Today is the end of unit review.  You will need to complete this on your own.  You can ask your adults to read the questions to you, but they must not help you.  All the questions are based on the work that you should have completed during the last week and a half.

Mrs Malone’s group – Please complete the end of chapter review (Review 6).  This is using all the knowledge that you have learned.  Please try and complete the sums on your own.  An adult may read the question to you.

English

Miss Thomas’s group – Follow the English learning and instructions and then complete the tasks.  When doing the written task, you can either print out the sheet to work on or you can design your own sheet on a plain piece of paper.  If you are using plain paper, ask an adult to draw you some straight lines for your writing.  It will help you to keep everything neat and tidy.

Mrs Malone’s group - You are going to be using the green book called ‘Chips’ for the rest of the week.  Today I would like you to...

  • Go through speed sounds (page 4)

  • Go through the green and red word (page 5)

  • Look through the vocabulary check and find out what the sounds mean

  • Read the book

It may not seem like a lot of work, but you know that Mrs Malone gets you to practice your sounds and words over and over again to make sure you are really confident.  There is no written work for you today, so spend this time becoming really confident with the book.  See how many people you can read it to today.

Theme - Let's Go To The Arctic

This week we are going to be thinking about the types of animals that you would find in the Arctic regions of the world.

Work your way through the slide show.  Did you manage to guess all the animals from the pictures?

Task –

Have a look at the ‘Map of the world information sheet’.  You can see where all the different types of animals live.  This is not the usual map we look at.  It is taken from space, looking down on top of the world.  Luckily, they have put the names of the countries on it so we still know where everything is.

Now have a go at answering the Arctic questions.  You can either print out the sheet and write on it or you can just answer the questions on a separate piece of paper.  If you are doing that make sure you write the question numbers.

Grammar

Something a bit different today.  We are going to be learning about expanded noun phrases.  I have found a short video to explain what it is and then an easy to access PowerPoint that will give you some practice.  You do not need to write anything down this week, but you will need to remember what you have learned so that you can use it next week.

Click on this link to ‘Twinkl Go’ – www.twinkl.co.uk/go and then when asked type in the passcode MT0312

Let me know if you get it to work.  I have not used this way of accessing twinkl before and it might be really useful in the future if it works!!

Daily Reading

Although we are not able to change your books at school every day, you do need to practice your reading skills.  Make time to do 10 minutes of reading with your adults before the end of the day.  I am sure you have plenty of books on your bookshelves.  Let me know if you read any really exciting ones that you think I might like!!
