Maths:

L.O: to add money by counting on

Today we are starting a new topic in our Maths No Problem workbooks all about money. Look carefully at the different coins and notes on the page. Remember to count the pounds and pence separately.

To start with answer your ‘In Focus’ question which is on the first page. As we would normally discuss this with our partners at school, see if there is an adult or older brother or sister to talk to about it. Please use the box on this page record your answer and methods.

Next look at the ‘Guided Practice’ which shows you some of the different style questions. I have left the answers on the worksheet so you can see the setting out and how to go about answering these types of questions.

Now it is your turn! Have a go at the ‘Independent Practice’ which is a copy of the worksheet that you would have completed in your MNP workbooks at school.

If you feel up for it, have a go at the challenge! Good luck!

Please could you email this piece of work to me.

English:

L.O: to discuss

On the first slide you will see some key words that are used in discussion texts and an example of these being used in a discussion text.

The next text in our anthology is a discussion text called ‘Nose in a Book or Eyes on the Game’ which all about which is better, books or computer games. Read through this carefully.

Which do you prefer? Books or Computer games? For your task today you need to write a one-sided argument (this means you only have to talk about the one you prefer). Write up your side of the discussion about why books/computer games are better, you can include your own points and use the ones in the anthology to help you.

Reading:

Although we are in lockdown, the expectation is for the children to still read 3 times a week for 10 minutes. Below is instructions and a link to oxford owl where an account has been created to provide the children with some ebooks.

Username: Leighclass3

Password: Book1234

For reading today we will continue to read ‘Lost in Space’ on Fiction Express. If you are unsure of your login, please email me at year3@leigh.covmat.org and I will resend it.

We will read the second chapter called, ‘A Jammy Escape’, so please select this as you open up the book. If you need to remind yourself of what happened previously then you should go back a few pages to reread this. At the end, vote on what you think Finn will do.

For your task today, your questions are from content domain 2g - Identify/explain how meaning is enhanced through choice of words and phrases

  1.  Splot, the alien, has a lisp. This means that she struggles to pronounce the letter ‘s’. Find all the examples of this in the text.

  2.  Do you think that the two heads of the hairy orange alien are friendly to one another? Find the words that the author uses instead of the verb ‘said’ that help us to answer this question.

  3.  Commander Blob says, “that burp is about to volcano again”. What did he mean to say?

Science:

L.O: to identify what rocks are used for

Think about what have we found out about rocks and their characteristics so far? Today you will be carrying out some research to find out the answers to some questions about rocks are used and why they are used for that purpose.

Cut out the questions and answers and see if you can match them carefully to the correct answer. Use the internet to help you.

Please could you email this piece of work to me.

French:

L.O: to say what a favourite animal is

Use the PowerPoint to read and practise the question, what is your favourite animal in French. There are some animals listed that you practised saying last week on there but if these are not your favourite animal then you can look this up.

For the final part of the lesson see if you can find all the animals on this wordsearch.
