Today please could you email me your Maths and Science work, I will also expect you to have completed the reading quiz online.

Maths:

L.O: to subtract pounds and pence with renaming

Today’s lesson is very similar to yesterday as we continue to practise subtracting different sums of money. You will need to use column subtraction for the worksheet today. Make sure you look carefully as you may need to borrow from the previous column (e.g. you can’t do 3 – 5 so you need to borrow a ten to turn it into 13 - 5).

To start with answer your ‘In Focus’ question which is on the first page. As we would normally discuss this with our partners at school, see if there is an adult or older brother or sister to talk to about it. Please use the box on this page record your answer and methods.

Next look at the ‘Guided Practice’ which shows you some of the different style questions. I have left the answers on the worksheet so you can see the setting out and how to go about answering these types of questions.

Now it is your turn! Have a go at the ‘Independent Practice’ which is a copy of the worksheet that you would have completed in your MNP workbooks at school.

Please could you email this piece of work to me.

English:

L.O: to answer question on the text

Today is lesson 4 of exploring the text ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne on the Oak National Academy with Mr Byrne-Smith.

To start off, you will need to think back to what you read yesterday and try to put the pictures in chronological (time) order. The teacher will then introduce you to an ellipsis and talk you through how these are used.

You will then read the rest of the story. After this, Mr Byrne-Smith will ask you some different questions about what you have read. Pause the video when instructed to and write up the answers to these questions on the worksheet. When you play again, the teacher will take you through what he thought so please add anything to your answer if you would like to.

Reading:

Although we are in lockdown, the expectation is for the children to still read 3 times a week for 10 minutes. Below is instructions and a link to oxford owl where an account has been created to provide the children with some ebooks.

For reading today we will continue to read ‘The Island at the End of the Bed’ on Fiction Express. If you are unsure of your login, please email me at year3@leigh.covmat.org and I will resend it.

We will read the second chapter called, ‘The Hidden Castle’, so please select this as you open the book. If you need to remind yourself of what happened previously then you should go back a few pages to reread this. At the end, vote on what you think Shan will do.

For today’s task please complete the multiple-choice quiz. You can choose between completing it online or downloading it and printing it out. It is useful if you do this online as I have access to view everybody’s answers. Remember this means I can see how long everybody has spent reading the chapter so please do not rush.

This is one of the pieces of work you must do today but you do not need to send this to me as I can see everyone's scores.

Science:

L.O: to explore fossils

Think back to previous lessons, can you remember how rocks are formed? Go through the slides about the rock cycle and the different types of rock there are.

You will then reach a slide with another picture, think about what this is and then go through the information.

For your task today, put the sentences about how a fossil is formed in the correct order and then draw a picture alongside this. If you are unsure look at slides 10 and 11 for inspiration.

Please could you email this piece of work for me.

French:

L.O: to recognise animals in a simple story

Watch the video of how animals sound around the world in other languages. See if you can have a go at making these sounds.

Look at and listen to the slides which show a simple story in French. See if you can recognise some of the animals that are mentioned. You can write or draw these as you hear them.
