Maths:

L.O: to read weighing scales in grams

On Monday we began our new Chapter in Maths No Problem which is weight. If you have any weighing scales at home, you could do some of this lesson practically.

To start with answer your ‘In Focus’ question which is on the first page. As we would normally discuss this with our partners at school, see if there is an adult or older brother or sister to talk to about it. Please use the box on this page record your answer and methods.

Next look at the ‘Guided Practice’ which shows you some of the different style questions. I have left the answers on the worksheet so you can see the setting out and how to go about answering these types of questions.

Now it is your turn! Have a go at the ‘Independent Practice’ which is a copy of the worksheet that you would have completed in your MNP workbooks at school.

If you feel up for it, have a go at the challenge! Good luck!

Please could you email this piece of work to year3@leigh.covmat.org

English:

L.O: to use key vocabulary and make inferences.

On Monday we began a new unit of learning in English which looks at a sci-fi story. Can you think of any stories that are science fiction?

Open the PowerPoint and you will see some science fiction language. Read these words and their definitions carefully so you can see what they mean. Choose two of these words to write in a sentence.

The next three slides show you picture clues from the story that we will be reading tomorrow. How do you think this relates to the story? Why might this be included? Look at the clues and write a sentence about what they might mean and predict how it might relate to the new story.

Please could you email this piece of work to me.

Home Reading:

Although we are in lockdown, the expectation is for the children to still read 3 times a week for 10 minutes. Below is instructions and a link to oxford owl where an account has been created to provide the children with some ebooks.

Reading:

L.O: to read and answer questions

As we had only just started ‘Grandpa’s Great Escape’ by David Walliams on Monday we will put this on pause and carry on reading it when we are all back together!

Today’s reading task is a version of ‘The Story of Icarus’. As you are reading this think about what is similar and different from the comic strip version that we read last term.

There are three levels to choose from. Look at the bottom of the page and you will see a star. One star is for bronze challenge, two stars is a silver challenge, and three stars is a gold challenge. Think about which one you would like to do and get started. The answers are included but you must wait until you have finished to check your answers.

SPAG:

L.O: to use adverbs

For today’s lesson we will be revising what an adverb is. Follow the BBC Bitesize link below which takes you through what an adverb is if you need reminding. As a warm up, try the activity on the page where you have to highlight the adverb in each sentence and the quiz underneath.

Make the following sentences below more interesting by adding adjectives and adverbs:

The cat sat on the wall.

The man walked down the street.

The girl went down the stairs.

The children sat on the carpet.

French:

For French this week we are practising our numbers from 1-10. The video below will help to remind you of the pronunciation and is also a catchy song to learn. After practising the song, have a go at completing the worksheet and quiz below.
