Week Beginning 21st November 2022

This week we have celebrated the start of the World Cup, had our Theme Day – ‘Celebrations Around The World’ and learnt about night and day.  It was also Road Safety Week this week.

On Monday we celebrated the start of the World Cup. We made flags and watched some of England’s first game!

On Wednesday we had our Theme Day - 'Celebrations Around the World'.  We all came to school dressed in our party clothes ready to celebrate! We talked about different occasions that we celebrate and how we celebrate them. We learnt about some other celebrations that happen around the world and how they are celebrated.  One interesting fact we learnt was that it's traditional in Canada for children to have butter rubbed on their noses when it's their birthday!  We had lots of fun playing party games, making celebration cakes out of playdough, creating celebratory party hats and making celebration cards.  We also tasted food from around the world, such as chorizo from Spain, brioche from France and prawn crackers from China!  Here are some photos from our day...

This week we have been learning about Light and Dark, particularly focussing on Night and Day. We talked about different things that we do in the day and at night and did some sorting activities where we had to sort pictures into ‘day’ and ‘night’.  In these pictures we had to stick a sun on the pictures that we thought were daytime and a moon on the pictures we thought were night time.

We did some ‘light and dark’ marble painting, using white paint on black paper and black paint on white paper.

It was Road Safety Week this week and we have been learning about how to stay safe when we are near a road or are crossing a road. We looked at some pictures of different scenarios and discussed whether the children in the pictures were being safe or unsafe.  Miss Haslam was very proud of all of us as we could all say how to stay safe when crossing a road.  We know to stop, look, listen and hold a grown up’s hand whenever we cross a road.

Busy Learning…
