Maths

Mrs Bennett’s

Chapter 10 Lesson 1

LO: To be able to identify pounds (£) and pence (p) and their symbols.

Text Book

To begin, have a look coins and notes of our currency. Look at the coins first, then the notes after.  What do you notice about the coins and notes? What do you already know about these coins/notes? Coins have special colours and some have special shapes. Is this true? How can we be sure? With the notes, discuss their colour and design, focusing on the number, symbols and the amount of money written in words. It is important what each coin/note looks like and how we write it using £ or p.

Key points:

Don’t confuse the size of the coin with the value of the coin. Children can believe all coins of the same colour have the same value. They can also believe that all the notes, despite the different colours and designs, have the same value.

During Guided Practice, they will be matching coins and notes with their written counterpart.

Work-book – your turn - please send in.

Mrs Malone’s group

Mrs Malone’s Group

Look at the sheet and write your sentences about the dilemma! Either print out the sheet or write straight onto some lined paper.

Phonics

Have a go at these phonics games.  Instructions are below.

Alien Escape

Race against the clock to help the alien escape to his spaceship!

You will see an alien waiting to cross a gap in the road. Next to the alien is a scrambled word and a picture. Click the letters in the correct order to spell the word in the picture, they will drop down to build a bridge across the gap. If you spell the word correctly the alien will walk across and climb up to the next gap. If the alien does not move, click on the letters to send them back to the top and try again.

Suffix factory

A word on a box moves along a belt at the spelling factory. On the right you see one of the three suffixes eder or ful. At the top of the screen is a rule for adding that suffix. If the rule is used for the word you see, click the tick on the right side of the rule. If it is not correct click the cross on the left. The box will then move along the belt and onto a waiting lorry. If you are wrong the lorry will drop the box. If you are right the lorry will take the box away.
