Week Beginning 20th March 2023

This week we have been learning all about plants and how they grow.  We learnt what the different parts of a plant are called such as the roots, stem, leaves and the flower/fruit.

We read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and enjoyed doing lots of different Jack and the Beanstalk activities in our Busy Learning time.

We had fun making beanstalks out of different construction materials such as Duplo, Sticklebricks, multilink cubes and large plastic bricks.

We also painted some large-scale beanstalks outside and made some beanstalks out of playdough and plasticine.

In another activity we had to pick up beans with tweezers. It was really tricky but we persevered because we know it will help make the muscles in our fingers strong! Some of us managed to fill up a whole pot with beans!

We went on a bean hunt! We had to count how many beans there were on each picture we found and then cross off the matching numeral on our sheet.

In another Maths activity we had to count the number of dots on the beans then stick the correct numeral on each one.  We were really good at finding the right numerals to match the number of dots!

As well as reading Jack and the Beanstalk this week, we also read some other stories based on Jack and the Beanstalk – Jasper’s Beanstalk and Jim and The Beanstalk! We talked about what happened in the stories and how they were the same or different from the traditional story.

We also watched Mr Tumble telling the story of Jack and The Beanstalk. We spotted him using some of the Makaton signs we have been learning in Nursery!

Look at our amazing ‘Growing’ display in the classroom.

We finished it off this week by making some sunflowers. We painted paper plates, snipped round the edges to create petals and then used bingo dabbers to create the seeds in the middle.  The display showcases all of the learning we have been doing about growing!

In PSHE with Mrs Entwistle this week we talked about healthy eating. In PE with Mr Ashby we practised some bat and ball skills.

Busy Learning…
