WORLD BOOK DAY

I will be sending out a story link via email today.

Today is World Book Day.

You will be sent a link for an assembly to introduce the day.

Please send in any pictures of the activities that you do today.

I  am looking forward to seeing them!

Please use the following link to watch the live event. The broadcast lasts from 10.30-11.00

Maths

LO: To be able to apply knowledge of position to solve problems.

Today we are going to do our Mind Workout and Maths Journal work.

Mind Workout

Name the pictures from 1st to 6th to show the correct order.

Maths Journal

Ask your child to follow instructions as you read them out on where to place the toys in their drawing. If they struggle with drawing then have prepared pictures of toys that they can arrange and place in the correct order. Ask them to make labels for the position of each picture.

Self Check
Now complete the self-check section.

We have chosen the story called The Hueys in the New Jumper by Oliver Jeffers.

The thing about the Hueys is they all look the same, they all think the same, they all do the same. Until one day, one of them knitted himself a new jumper.

Task Ideas

Now have a go at some of the follow-up activities that I have included in the resources section.

You could order the pictures on The Huey's ordering sheet.

Why not write a book review about the story?

You could draw a picture and retell the story in your own words.

Build a story den and read your favourite story in it. All you need is some chairs and a sheet.

Design a bookmark

Use this template or make your own.

Reading Challenge

Children try and complete each of the challenges, ticking the stars off each time they complete one.  When they have completed as many as they can, they bring it to school or send a photo and they will get a certificate.  Just let us know who needs a certificate and we will get them to you or the child.

Whole School Challenge

If you did not have a chance to do this yesterday, you could have a go today.

Make  a Character

Task: Decorate an item at home as a book character. Choose any item you like: paper plate,  pebble,  potato wooden spoon, shoebox, lolly stick. Here are a couple of ideas as inspiration.

Email in your pictures today.

Reading Books

It is important to read for at least 10 minutes per day with your child.  I have included a selection of reading books. Please choose the level appropriate for your child. Don't forget to do the Questions to chat about and Questions to read and answer at the end of the book. Alternatively, you can of course read a book from home.
