Maths:

L.O: to solve word problems involving multiplication and division

For our maths learning we will be using our knowledge of volume and capacity to be solving different word problems. Today you will need to decide if you need to use multiplication or division to solve the problems.

As this can be challenging, I have made a video and worksheet for you to remind you of the methods we can use to solve multiplication and division problems. I will Marvellous Me the video link to your parents.

To start with answer your ‘In Focus’ question which is on the first page. As we would normally discuss this with our partners at school, see if there is an adult or older brother or sister to talk to about it. Please use the box on this page record your answer and methods.

Next look at the ‘Guided Practice’ which shows you some of the different style questions. I have left the answers on the worksheet so you can see the setting out and how to go about answering these types of questions. As you can see, for these problems bar models are useful to draw out so you can see what you need to do clearly.

Now it is your turn! Have a go at the ‘Independent Practice’ which is a copy of the worksheet that you would have completed in your MNP workbooks at school.

Please could you email this piece of work to me.

English:

L.O: to identify features of discussion texts

Today we are beginning a new unit in our English learning, looking at discussion texts.

Look at the scales on the first slide and what happens when different opinions are put on them. Think about why it is important to share both sides of an argument. We call this a discussion text. In a discussion text it is important that the numbers of points on each side is equal, we call this a balanced argument. Why do you think this? The next slide shows some important words for us to remember and understand.

Your task today is to look at the two arguments (A and B), read them carefully and write a paragraph to explain which text is balanced and how you know. Use the words on the slides to help you.

Reading:

Although we are in lockdown, the expectation is for the children to still read 3 times a week for 10 minutes. Below is instructions and a link to oxford owl where an account has been created to provide the children with some ebooks.

L.O: to share opinions

For reading this week we will be starting a new book. I have chosen a sci-fi story to fit in with our recent English topic called ‘Lost in Space’ on Fiction Express. If you are unsure of your login, please email me at year3@leigh.covmat.org and I will resend it.

We will read the first chapter, ‘Crash Landing’, so please select this as you open up the book. At the end of the chapter, vote on what you think Finn does.

For your task today, after reading the first chapter I would like you to answer these questions:

  1.  Did you enjoy reading the first chapter of Lost in Space? Which character did you like the most?
  2.  Lost in Space is an adventure story about a trip on a space plane. Would you like to go on a space plane? Which planets would you like to travel to?
  3.  The author has tried to make the story funny for the readers. How do you think she did this? Which words or parts of the chapter did you find the funniest?

Geography:

L.O: to research deforestation

Over the past few weeks, we have been looking at places around the world and how they produce some types of food. Sometimes humans change the way that land is used to produce more food. This is not always a good thing. In Indonesia and other tropical areas, rainforests are being cut down and turned into farmland. This is called deforestation.

For your task today you are going to research deforestation and create a poster warning people about the dangers of this. You can also use the deforestation statement worksheet to help you.

Please could you email this piece of work to me.

Music:

L.O: to explore 2 beats in a bar

Today’s music lesson will be the next lesson taught by Mr Palekar an Oak National Academy about pulse and rhythm.

You will start off by going over the song from last lesson and then playing some games. For this lesson you will need a plastic cup or beaker as you will practising the cup song. The lesson will require lots of singing, clapping and tapping so make sure you are somewhere where you will not disturb anyone!
